TNPSC Group 1 Selection Process 2026
TNPSC Group 1 selection process consists of the Preliminary Examination, Main Written Examination and Interview. The Preliminary Examination is an objective-type screening examination, and its marks are used for shortlisting candidates for the Main Examination rather than determining the final merit ranking.
Candidates who qualify for the Prelims are called for the Main Written Examination. Under the prescribed scheme, the Main Examination consists of Paper I – Tamil Eligibility Test for 100 marks, followed by General Studies Paper II, Paper III and Paper IV, carrying 250 marks each. Paper I is qualifying in nature, while the marks obtained in General Studies Papers II, III and IV are considered for further selection. The Interview carries 100 marks.
Candidates are also required to satisfy the applicable certificate and document verification requirements. Final ranking is prepared on the basis of the marks considered under the prescribed Main Examination and Interview scheme, subject to the applicable reservation and recruitment rules. Candidates subsequently participate in counselling and appointment procedures according to their rank and eligibility.
