the removal of arsenic and heavy metals from water using nano technology
AMRIT stands for Arsenic and Metal Removal by Indian Technology. It was developed at IIT Madras by the team of Prof. T. Pradeep.
The technology uses nanoscale iron oxy-hydroxide based materials that selectively adsorb arsenic and other heavy metal ions, giving safe drinking water at low cost in homes and community plants.
It has been recommended for use under the Jal Jeevan Mission to supply safe tap water in arsenic-affected habitations. It is not a desalination, softening or recharge technology.
Hence, the removal of arsenic and heavy metals from water using nano technology.
