NTA has revised the exam date for conducting UGC NET 2020, it will now be held from September 24, 2020 onwards. Previously the exams were Scheduled from September 16, 2020.  UGC NET 2020 Admit Card is expected to release soon. As per UGC NET 2020 eligibility, candidates possessing a post-graduate degree with 55% marks are eligible to apply for UGC NET 2020. Candidates should not be more than 30 years in age for JRF but there is no age restriction to apply for the post of Assistant Professor. Check  UGC NET Eligibility Criteria

The exam consists of two papers i.e. Paper 1 and Paper 2. Paper 1 is common to all and Paper 2 is opted by the candidates from 81 subjects offered by NTA. As per UGC NET Paper Pattern, to complete both the papers 3 hours (without any break) will be given to candidates. There will be no negative marking in the exam. Candidates have to score 40% marks (35% for reserved candidates) together in Paper 1 and Paper 2 to qualify the exam. A total of 10,34,872 candidates had registered in UGC NET December 2019 session, out of which 7,93,813 appeared and 60,147 exam takers qualified for eligibility for Assistant Professor only whereas 5,092 qualified for both JRF & eligible for Assistant Professor. UGC NET 2020 Eligibility Criteria

Candidates willing to apply for UGC NET June 2020 have to fulfil certain eligibility conditions laid down by NTA. UGC NET Eligibility is based on the academic qualification and age limit as described below:

UGC NET 2020 Educational Qualification Requirement

  • Candidates must have scored at least 55% marks (50% for reserved categories) in their Post Graduation or equivalent from any recognized university.
  • Final year students are also eligible to appear in the exam. However, they will be considered for award of JRF or professorship after they pass their qualifying exam with minimum marks.
  • Ph.D. degree holders whose post-graduation exam was completed before September 19, 1991 (irrespective of the date of declaration of result) are provided an additional relaxation of 5% in minimum marks requirement.

  • Assistant Professorship: There is no age limit for UGC NET Assistant Professorship.

  • Junior Research Fellowship: The upper age limit is 30 years as on June 1, 2020.

  • Visit the official website and click on Apply online to fill the registration page.

UGC NET 2020 Admit Card

UGC NET Admit Card for June 2020 session will be issued on May 15, 2020. Candidates can download UGC NET 2020 Admit Card only from the official website- by logging in with their registration number and date of birth. UGC NET 2020 Admit Card will specify the candidate’s name, roll number, category, photograph, signature, allotted exam date, time, and center.

UGC NET 2020 Exam Centers

  • Considering the COVID-19 pandemic, candidates will be given an opportunity to modify their online application form and re-select new exam centres from July 6-15, 2020. They can also change their photos and signature and pay the application fees if needed. Only changes made through the official website and application form will be accepted.
  • UGC NET Exam will be conducted in 224 cities this June. 
  • Candidates have to indicate 4 exam cities in order of their preference while filling UGC NET 2020 Application Form
  • NTA will try to allot the most preferred exam center to the candidate.
  • However, it reserves the right to allot any exam center other than the ones selected by the candidates.
  • Also, it can add or cancel exams in any city if the number of applicants for that city is negligible.

UGC NET Exam is a computer-based test having multiple-choice questions.

  • The exam has two papers – Paper 1 and Paper 2.
  • Paper 1 is the same and compulsory for all candidates. It tests teaching and reasoning ability, research aptitude, comprehension, divergent thinking, and general awareness of the candidate.
  • Paper 2 is based on the subject chosen by the candidate. It tests a candidate’s in-depth knowledge and expertise in the respective subject.

  • Each question carries 2 marks and there is no negative marking in any of the papers.

UGC NET 2020 Answer Key

NTA will release UGC NET Answer Keys along with candidates’ response sheets and question papers for both Paper 1 and Paper 2 at the official website.

Opportunities after UGC NET 2020

  • Those who qualify for the award of Junior Research Fellowship are eligible to pursue research in the subject of their post-graduation or in a related subject.
  • The universities, institutions, IITs, and other national organizations may select the JRF awardees for whole time research work.
  • For Assistant Professor, the number of candidates to be qualified (total slots) will be equal to 6% of the candidates who appeared in both the papers of NET.

Ques. In how many subjects will UGC NET be conducted?

Ques. What is the validity of UGC NET score?

Ans. The validity of UGC NET e-certificate is lifetime, however, the validity of the JRF Letter of Award is only two years after the result is declared.

Ques. Can I select the exam for one particular post?

Ans. Yes, while filling in the application form, you will have the option to apply for both Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and Assistant Professor, or just the latter one. The online registration will start from March 16, 2020. Candidates can visit the official website to fill the online application form. 

Ques. Will the exam be conducted in online mode?

Ans. Yes, from June 2018, the examination is conducted in computer-based mode. The registration process will also be online and start on March 16, 2020. 

Ques. How many questions will be there in UGC NET?

Ans. There will be a total of 150 objective-type questions, for which maximum marks awarded is 300.

Ques. Is there any negative marking in the paper?

Ans. No, there is no negative marking in the paper. For each correct answer, you will get 2 marks.

Ans. The last date to submit the application fee is October 16, 2020. After the due date, the fee will not be accepted and your form will be rejected.

Ques. Is the Aadhaar Card necessary to apply for the exam?

Ans. No, the Aadhaar card just serves as any other ID proof and is not necessary for registration. 

Ques. Is the UGC NET application fee refundable?

Ans. The application fee for UGC NET 2020, once remitted, is not refundable or transferable under any circumstances.

Ans. The application fee for the exam can be paid either online through Credit Card/Debit Card/ Netbanking or via offline mode through e-challan. Candidates paying the fee offline through e-challan will have to pay the application fee in cash to Syndicate/SBI bank.

Ques. What is the minimum eligibility criterion for UGC NET 2020?

Ans. To apply for NTA UGC NET 2020, students must have a post-graduation degree from a university recognized by UGC, with a minimum aggregate or percentage of 55% for general candidates and 50% in the case of reserved category candidates.

Ans. Yes, it is necessary to take hard copies of the admit card, as admit cards won’t be sent individually by post.

Ques. Can we get entry to the examination hall without admit card (in case we forget)?

Ans. No, any candidate without the hall ticket will not be permitted to enter the examination hall and give the exam, under any circumstances. So, students must carry the hard copy of their respective admit cards.

Ques. Can we select the examination center while registering for the exam?

Ans. Yes, while registering for the exam candidates can fill their preferred examination center. But, the conducting authority does not guarantee to assign the preferred examination centers as they will be allocated as per the availability.

Ques. What other documents do I need to bring along with the hall ticket?

Ans. Along with the print out of the admit card, students must bring their photo identity proof (voter ID card, Aadhar Card, Pan Card, etc.) and a photograph to the examination center on the exam day.

Ques. When will the results be out?

Ans. The results for UGC NET 2020 will be released on August 2020(tentatively). Candidates can check their result by entering their Roll Number and DOB.

Ques. What is the cutoff for UGC NET 2020?

Ans. General candidates have to score minimum 40% aggregate in Paper 1 and Paper 2 while OBC-NCL/ PwD/ SC/ ST candidates have to score 35%.
