CDS 2 GK Exam Pattern 2026

CDS 2 General Knowledge 2026 was an objective-type paper conducted for 2 hours and carrying a maximum of 100 marks. The paper generally consists of 120 multiple-choice questions covering current events, General Science, History, Geography and other areas of general awareness. The General Knowledge paper is compulsory for candidates applying for the Indian Military Academy (IMA), Indian Naval Academy (INA), Air Force Academy (AFA) and Officers' Training Academy (OTA). CDS 2 GK Question Paper 2026 FAQs

Ques: Which subjects should candidates prioritise for CDS 2 General Knowledge 2026?

Ans: Candidates should give particular attention to General Science, History, Geography, Current Affairs and Indian Polity. Science and History received comparatively higher emphasis in the CDS 1 2026 paper, although UPSC can change the subject-wise distribution in CDS 2.

Ques: Is preparing only current affairs enough for the CDS 2 GK paper?

Ans: No. Current affairs form only one part of the CDS General Knowledge paper. Candidates are also tested on static areas such as History, Geography and scientific concepts, so preparation should balance recent events with core static subjects.

Ques: How important is General Knowledge for OTA candidates in CDS 2 2026?

Ans: General Knowledge is particularly important for OTA candidates because the OTA written examination consists of only English and General Knowledge, carrying 100 marks each. Therefore, the GK paper accounts for half of the total written examination marks for OTA candidates.

Ques: Does UPSC specify a fixed subject-wise distribution for the CDS General Knowledge paper?

Ans: No. UPSC specifies the broad General Knowledge syllabus but does not allot a fixed number of questions to History, Science, Geography, Polity, Current Affairs or other individual subjects. The weightage can change from one CDS paper to another.

Ques: Are defence-related questions a separate section in the CDS 2 General Knowledge paper?

Ans: No separate defence section is prescribed by UPSC. However, questions related to military exercises, defence organisations, weapons systems, important appointments and defence developments may appear under current affairs or miscellaneous General Knowledge.
