The online application process of CDS I was closed on November 19, 2019 and the exam was conducted on Feb 2, 2020. The authorities have released the result of CDS I written examination in a PDF format on March 23, 2020, that contains the roll no. of all the qualified candidates. Check  CDS I Result 2020

CDS application form 2020 has to be filled in two parts:

  • In part 1: Candidates need to enter their personal details. After that, registration no. and password will be generated. Using these login credentials candidates can fill part 2 of the application form.
  • In part 2: Candidates need to enter the educational qualification, scanned photograph and signature, etc.

CDS Application form 2020 can be filled online only. However, CDS Application fee can be paid through both offline and online mode. The registration fee for General candidates is INR 200/-, whereas there is no registration fee for the reserved category and female candidates.

How to fill CDS Application Form 2020?

UPSC CDS Application form can be filled in online mode only at the official website. The application process involves two parts – Part 1 is basic registration and Part 2 includes fee payment, filing up form and uploading scanned documents. Candidates are advised to go through Official UPSC CDS 2020 Notification before proceeding to fill the form.

Steps to fill CDS 2020 Application Form

There are 4 simple steps involved in CDS Application Process:

Step 1: CDS Registration

  • Visit UPSC CDS 2020 official website –
  • Click on Part 1 registration to open the registration form.

  • Enter your name, date of birth, parents’ name, address, category, mobile number, email ID and other basic details. 
  • Your registration number will be sent to you as SMS and email.

Step 2: Pay CDS Application Fee 

  • Candidates have to pay application fees for CDS 2020 that is INR 200.
  • Female, SC, ST and Physically handicapped candidates are exempted from fee payment.
  • Application Fees can be paid in online mode via Debit/ Credit Card or SBI Netbanking and in offline mode by paying cash at any SBI Bank branch.
  • To pay the fees by cash, candidates will have to generate bank challan during the registration process and submit the same along with the fees at any SBI bank branch.

Step 3: Fill CDS Application Form

  • Candidates have to complete their form by mentioning personal and educational details.
  • Indicate your preferred position amongst IAF, IMA, INA and OTA.
  • Also, select CDS Exam Center as per your preference.
  • Fill the form very carefully as no correction will be allowed after closing of application process.

Step 4: Upload CDS Photo, Signature and Photo ID Proof

Candidates have to upload their scanned passport size photograph, signature and photo ID proof in prescribed specifications:

UPSC CDS 2020 Application Form FAQs

Q. After the submission of the requisite application fee, can the application be cancelled and a request for a refund be generated?

A. Yes, the application can be withdrawn. After the completion of online registration, the authorities will release the dates for application withdrawal. In that specific time, candidates can withdraw their candidature from the examination.  However, the application fees will not be refunded.

Q. I am an applicant belonging to the general category. However, I selected the reserved category by mistake while applying for CDS 2020. I wish to make changes to my category. Please help.

A. You can fill a fresh form and make the changes in that form till the application deadline. Application fees will have to be paid again.

Q. Can multiple forms be submitted and the fees for one form be adjusted to the other?

A. Multiple forms can be submitted only under an unavoidable situation. However, candidates will have to pay the fees again as the fees of another form will not be adjusted for the accurate form.

Q. Are candidates who have just appeared for the qualifying examination eligible for CDS 2020?

A. YES. Aspirants who have just appeared for the qualifying exam are also eligible provided they have no backlog up to the last semester and are able to produce the required documents at the time of admission.

Q.How can I recover my Registration ID and password?

A. To recover the registration ID or password, you need to refer to the registered email ID to recover the password or registration id. You can also see the registration number on the fee receipt.

Q.Do I need to send the hardcopy of CDS application form 2020 to the authorities?

A. No, you do not need to send the printout of the CDS application form2020 to the authorities. However, it is advised that you must keep a hard copy of the application for your own record and future reference.

Hi Bhagyashri. In case you want to join the Indian Army, then then you can take any course but in case you want to go for Airforce or Navy, then must have studied maths and science in calss 12th and in graduation.

Hi Karan. To join the NDA, you need to give the CDS exam. In case you are aged between 15.7 years and 18.7 years (not earlier than 2nd January 2002), you are eligible for the CDS exam. You can prepare for your exam along with pursuing B. Tech. Refer here to know more.

Hello Kashish,

Unfortunately, NDA doesn’t allow female candidates to be a part of PC yet. But, the Supreme Court is hearing pleas regarding it and we might get a good news soon. However, you can obtain a graduation degree and give AFCAT examination to join IAF as a PC.

The candidates recruited from the CDS examination hold the post of Flying officer initially. After 2 years of service, they are promoted to Flying Lieutenant, the to Squadron leader and so on, the apex post being Cheif of commands and Airforce.
