There are no well-established definitions that identify lakes, ponds, marshes, rivers, and other bodies of non-oceanic water. Ox Bow Lake

  • Oxbow lake is a tiny lake found in a river channel's abandoned meander loop.
  • They are river bends that are U-shaped or curved and are blocked off from the main river flow, generating a lake.
  • Every river has distinct twists and bends or meanders that cut through the surrounding environment.
  • The terminus of the meander loop becomes closer and closer due to constant erosion and deposition along the edges of the meanders.
  • Over time, the meander loops separated from the river, generating the oxbow lake.

Oasis

  • Oases (plural of oasis) form when the wind creates deep channels in the desert's low-lying sections, exposing subsurface water that had previously fallen as rain. Some of the oases' water comes from rain that occurred 20,000 years ago.
  • The existence of water on the surface or beneath is required, and strategic management of this vital resource is important, but it is not sufficient to establish such areas: ongoing human labour and know-how are required to preserve such ecosystems.
  • Rain showers supply subsurface water for natural oases like the Tuat.
  • Water can be trapped and retained in pockets by impermeable rock and stone, or it can accumulate and percolate to the surface through lengthy faulting subterranean ridges or volcanic dikes.
  • Any occurrence of water is subsequently utilized by migrating birds, who also transmit seeds with their droppings, establishing an oasis at the water's edge.
