Consider the following statements:

(a) The sensation-thinking personalities are very emotional and focussed towards past.

(b) The intuition-thinking personalities are very futuristic, imaginative and creative.

(c) The sensation-feeling personalities are very unkeen observers, non-methodical and problem-creators.

(d) The intuition-feeling personalities are very people-oriented, possessing personal charm and enthusiasm.

In light of Myers-Briggs Type Indicator Personality Test, which of the above statements are true?

This question was previously asked in
UGC NET 2015 Paper 1 Question Paper (27-Dec-2015)
The correct answer is

Only (b) and (d)

The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator combines two perceiving functions (Sensing or Intuition) with two judging functions (Thinking or Feeling) to produce characteristic personality profiles. We test each statement against those recognised profiles.

Statement (b) is true: intuition-thinking (NT) types are indeed futuristic, imaginative and creative, because intuition supplies big-picture, possibility-focused perception while thinking adds logical, analytical judgement. Statement (d) is true: intuition-feeling (NF) types are people-oriented, warm and enthusiastic, with personal charm, since intuition combines with feeling's concern for people and values.

Statement (a) is false: sensation-thinking (ST) types are practical, factual, matter-of-fact and logical, focused on concrete present realities - not 'very emotional and focused towards the past', which misdescribes them. Statement (c) is false: sensation-feeling (SF) types are actually sociable, sympathetic, practical and keen observers of people, so calling them 'unkeen observers, non-methodical and problem-creators' is the opposite of their real character.

So only (b) and (d) correctly describe the Myers-Briggs profiles, while (a) and (c) are wrong.

Hence only (b) and (d) are true.
