The theory of andragogy is related to the theory of __________.
Adult learning
The term andragogy comes from Greek roots meaning 'man-leading', and it is used in education and training theory in deliberate contrast with pedagogy, which means 'child-leading'.
Andragogy, popularised by Malcolm Knowles, is the theory and practice of adult learning. Its central claim is that adults learn quite differently from children. Adults are self-directed rather than dependent on a teacher; they bring a large reservoir of experience that becomes a resource for learning; their readiness to learn is tied to their social and work roles; and they are motivated by immediate relevance and problem-solving rather than by subjects to be mastered for the future. So andragogy is squarely the theory of adult learning.
The distractors are related but distinct. Child learning corresponds to pedagogy, the opposite of andragogy. Social learning (Bandura) is learning by observing and modelling others' behaviour, a different mechanism altogether. 'Teacher learning' is not the referent of the term. Only adult learning matches andragogy.
Hence the theory of andragogy is related to the theory of adult learning.
