Which of the following is not an individual method of performance appraisal ?
360-degree appraisal
Performance appraisal techniques are classified by how many raters are involved. Individual methods rely on a single evaluator, usually the immediate superior, assessing the employee.
The 360-degree appraisal is not an individual method. It gathers feedback from a full circle of sources around the employee - superiors, peers, subordinates, and sometimes customers and the employee's own self-assessment. Because the rating is drawn from multiple perspectives rather than one, it is classified as a multi-rater or multi-source method, which is precisely what sets it apart from the others here.
The other three are individual methods. In Management by Objectives, the superior and subordinate jointly agree on objectives at the start of the period and the superior then evaluates achievement against them. The Behaviourally Anchored Rating Scale gives the rater a scale whose points are anchored to described examples of actual job behaviour, but the rating is still done by one evaluator. The checklist method has the rater tick statements that describe the employee's behaviour from a prepared list, again as a single assessor.
Hence the method that is not individual is the 360-degree appraisal.
