SSC CGL Inspector of Posts works in the Department of Posts which comes under the Ministry of Communications, Government of India. The Department of Posts is the largest postal network in the world. Postal Inspectors take responsibility for one or two postal divisions together in each district. The Postal Inspector has to undergo a training program after selection.

The training period for a Postal Inspector is as follows:

  • The training period is of 14-16 weeks and takes place in the Postal Training Centres. There will be training on roles and responsibilities of Postal Inspector, details of administrative work, official noting and drafting systems, etc. Last 2 months fully field exposure.

The work profile of a Postal Inspector is as follows:-

  • Postal Inspector is either posted as Sub-divisional Inspector or IP-PG(Public Grievance) level and will be in charge of about 60-70 post offices within his/her subdivision.
  • Postal Inspector is the appointing and disciplinary authority for GDS (Gramin Dak Sevaks) and is assisted by 2 Mail overseers.
  • They have to conduct mandatory inspections of Mukhya Dak Ghar, Sub Post Offices, Branch Post Offices, Railway Mail Offices, and Railway Mail Sections and submit Inspection Reports within the stipulated time.
  • Assist Senior Officers in carrying out Inspection of Head Post Offices, Divisional Offices, Regional Offices, Circle Offices, Postal Accounts Offices, etc.
  • Postal Inspectors have to educate people regarding the various schemes and plans launched by the government like Postal Life Insurance and they have to market, supervise & also do after-sale services.

SSC CGL Inspector of Posts: Selection Process

According to the official notification, the SSC CGL selection process has two Tiers i.e. Tier 1 and Tier 2. Details of each tier can be found below:

  • Tier 1 Exam is mandatory for all eligible candidates appearing for SSC CGL.
  • In the Tier 2 exam, the Postal Inspector candidates need to take only 1 paper consisting of three sections.
  • The three sections of the paper are further segmented into two modules each. They are elaborated below.
    • Section 1: Mathematical Abilities (Module 1) and Reasoning and General Intelligence (Module 2).
    • Section 2: English Language and Comprehension (Module 1) and General Awareness (Module 2).
    • Section 3: Computer Knowledge Test (Module 1) and Data Entry Speed Test (Module 2).
  • The qualifying candidates will have to appear for document verification and medical examination for final selection.

SSC CGL: Inspector of Posts v/s Inspector (Narcotics)

Postal Inspector works as Sub-divisional Inspector or IP-PG (Public Grievance) in the Postal Department of India and is in charge of 60-70 post offices.
