SSC CGL Tier 1 is conducted in CBT mode with objective-type multiple-choice questions. Each correct answer carries 2 marks, while 0.50 marks are deducted for every incorrect answer. Paper I is compulsory for all candidates. Paper II is applicable to candidates shortlisted for JSO/Statistical Investigator Grade-II, while Paper III applies to candidates shortlisted for Assistant Audit Officer/Assistant Accounts Officer posts. Computer Knowledge Test and DEST are qualifying in nature.

There is a negative marking of 1 mark for each incorrect answer in Sections I, II and Module I of Section III of Paper I, while 0.50 marks are deducted for each incorrect answer in Paper II and Paper III.
