Latest Update: SSC CGL Tier 2 exam will be conducted between 14th October 2020 to 17th October 2020. 
SSC has made new changes in CGL exam eligibility. As per the recent notification released by the Commission on August 5, 2019, age criteria for the post of Tax Assistant that comes under the ‘CBEC Group C’ cadre has been changed. Candidates between the age of 18 - 27 are eligible to apply for CGL exam. It is to be noted that the changes will be applicable for CGL 2018 recruitment.

  1. If the aspirants are living outside of India, can also enroll their names to SSC CGL 2020 Exam
  2. The minimum and maximum age limit of the general candidates are 18 years and 32 years respectively. However, the reserved category students get the age relaxation for applying the exam.

SSC CGL 2020 Age Limit

  • Aspirants applying for SSC CGL must not be less than 18 years and cannot be more than 32 years of age (as on August 1, 2019).
  • The lower and upper limit of age varies for each post.
  • The age of candidates as present in the 10th/12th certificates will be considered.

SSC CGL Eligibility Criteria- Age Relaxation

SSC offers a provision of age relaxation for candidates from all reserved categories. Candidates must keep in mind the SSC Age Limit before filling the application form. Relaxation of the upper age limit for the various categories is shown in the table below.

Nationality Criteria

SSC CGL 2020 Eligibility Criteria- Nationality

SC CGL Eligibility Criteria as per Nationality mandates a candidate to be a resident of the prescribed states only.  Candidates belonging to these states will be eligible to apply for SSC CGL. An applicant must fulfill any one of the following conditions:

  • He must be an Indian Citizen
  • He must be a subject of Nepal/Bhutan
  • He must be a Tibetan refugee who moved to India, before 1962, with the intention of settling down permanently in India.
  • He must be a Person of Indian Origin who has moved to India from Burma, Pakistan, Uganda, Kenya, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia, Ethiopia, Zaire, and Vietnam with intention of settling down permanently in India.

Educational Qualification

SSC CGL 2020 Eligibility Criteria- Educational Qualification

Candidates must check the SSC exam qualification details for the post. To appear the exam, the aspirants should complete their graduation from any renowned Institution/University. More specifically, the Bachelor’s degree in any program is eligible to appear for the entrance test. Apart from this, the candidates should study either in Mathematics/ Statistics/ Economics as an elective subject or as a compulsory subject. Other academic qualifications corresponding to the different posts are given below.

Statistical Investigator Grade II

Basic Qualification: Any Bachelor’s Degree from recognized University or Institute with at least 60% in Mathematics at Higher Secondary (12th or equivalent) level OR Any Bachelor’s Degree from recognized University or Institute with Statistics as one of the subjects at degree level.

Assistant Audit Officer

Basic Qualification: Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized University or Institute

Additional Qualification: Cost & Management Accountant / Chartered Accountant / Company Secretary /Masters in Commerce/Business Studies/Business Administration (Finance)/ Business Economics. Check out SSC CGL AAO job profile.

Compiler

Basic Qualification: Bachelor’s Degree from any recognized University or Institution. Additionally, candidates must have studied either Economics or Statistics or Mathematics as a compulsory or elective subject.

Assistant Section Officer (CSS)

Basic Qualification: Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized University or Institute

Additional Qualification: In addition to the basic Undergraduate Degree, candidates must also qualify in the Computer Proficiency Test.

Physical Standards for the Inspector (Central Excise/ Examiner/Preventive officer)

To appear the SSC CGL Exam, the aspirants require to have the specified physical standards before the final round of selection. The physical fitness requirement includes weight, height, and eye-sight. Read the following content to know more about the SSC CGL Physical Standard Requirements:

Female 152 Cm. height can be relaxed by 2.5 cm Weight must be 48 kgs. Note: The Garhwali, Assamese, Gorkhas, and the Scheduled Tribes Candidates have been given a weight relaxation of 2 kgs.

Standards for Physical Test

The candidates must also see the physical standard as per the Physical Test is considered:

Male The candidates will have to cover 1600 meters in 15 minutes The candidates will have to walk 8 km in 30 minutes.
Female The candidates will have to cover 1000 meters in 15 minutes. The candidates will have to walk 3  in 25 minutes.

Physical Standards for Sub-Inspector in CBI

The candidates should check the required physical standards for SI in CBI as per the SSC CGL Eligibility Criteria 2018:

SSC CGL Eligibility Criteria of Ex-Servicemen for Reservation Advantages under ESM Category

  1. Under the Central Government group “C” and “D”, if the ex-servicemen have already received the reservation benefits for re-employment in civilian jobs, are not be capable of ESM Category reservation. They will be eligible for this specific reservation only when they will need to submit the self-declaration to the concerned employer and should provide all the necessary details of prior job applications in civil employment.
  2. If you want to enjoy the benefits of the reservation being an ex-serviceman, then they need to acquire the ex-serviceman status or they should do within thin a year of last application receipt. You should support the fact by documentary evidence from the competent authority. 

Important Information about SSC CGL Eligibility Criteria 2020 

  1. At the time of the SSC CGL written examination, the detailed information related to the SSC CGL Eligibility Criteria and other related aspects will not be scrutinized. 
  2. According to the terms and conditions highlighted in the SSC CGL Eligibility Criteria 2020, the Commission will ‘provisionally’ accept the aspirants.
  3. When the scrutiny of SSC CGL Eligibility Criteria 2020 will be undertaken, if any discrepancy will be found in the recruitment process, then the candidature of the aspirants will be canceled. This final decision will be taken by the commission. 

SSC CGL 2020 Eligibility Criteria FAQs

Ques.  Are the students in their final year of graduation also eligible for SSC CGL?

Ans. You cannot apply for the SSC CGL Exam if you have not cleared your Graduation. For all the posts offered through the SSC CGL exam, it is mandatory to be a graduate.

Ques.  My D.O.B is 06th July 1987 and I have completed 28 years of Age. As per the notification from SSC If the age will be computed from 01st Aug, then I would be running with my 30th Age. My D.O.B is 06th July 1987 and I am falling under the OBC category, Can I appear for SSC CGL 2018 by claiming age relaxation. Will it be counted as 30 or 31?

Ans. Yes, you can apply for SSC CGLE 2019-2020, after taking relaxations allowed for OBC Category i.e. of 3 years. As you will be completing 30 years on 6th July 2018 and SSC exam conducting authorities will be taking into consideration the ‘Candidates’ Age’ as calculated on 1.8.2018, then it will be counted as 30 and not 31.

Ques.  I am 30+ and belong to SC category but got married to a guy who belongs to gen category. Am I eligible to apply for SSC CGL 2019-20 by claiming SC category?

Ans. You can apply for the SSC CGL Exam and take the benefits of SC Category. You will have to produce the necessary caste certificates for availing the category relaxations and benefits.

Ques.  I got only 46% in graduation. Am I eligible for SSC CGL 2020?

Ans. Yes, you are eligible for SSC CGL Exam 2018, as the first and minimum eligibility condition required for taking the Graduate Level Exam is Graduation.

Ques.  Are Engineers eligible for this exam having B.E. in Electrical and Electronics?

Ans. Any Graduate can apply for the SSC CGL Exam. Apart from few SSC CGL Posts like that of Compiler, Statistical Investigator Grade II and Assistant (CSS) require Graduation in specific streams.

Ques.  My age is 34. I met with an accident & now I am physically 42% ortho handicap from the general category. Am I eligible for age relaxation in the PH category?

Ans. Yes, you are eligible to take SSC CGL 2018 Exam, as the relaxation provided is of 10 years for Physically Handicapped Candidates in the upper age limit.

Ques.  Can I apply for CGL income tax officer post? As I use spectacle and my eye is minor weak, suggest to me and if not then what post can I apply for?

Ans. Yes, you are eligible to apply for SSC CGL Income Tax Officer Post, as this post doesn’t have any specific rules set for vision.

Ques.  May I know which post is an interview and non-interview post respectively?

Ans. As of January 1, 2018, no interviews are applicable for any of the SSC CGL Posts. Para 9.2 of the official notification for SSC CGL Recruitment 2018 clearly states that – “9.2 Interview component has been dispensed with. There will, therefore, be no interview.”

Ques.  Is it true that acceptance of form by SSC CGL makes a candidate eligible to sit for the exams but in the verification process, he/she will be declared ineligible for the post if the age is found more than the maximum age prescribed in the notification? So one should not hold any expectation of getting selected even if he/ she clears all the tiers?

Ans. Yes, your age should be according to the criteria set by the commission.

Ques.  My height is 160 cms, Can I apply for inspector income tax and other inspector posts? What are the other inspector posts that I am eligible for?

Ans. Yes, you are eligible for Inspector (Central Excise/ Examiner/ Preventive Officer) posts.
