NDA 2 GAT Exam Pattern 2026

NDA 2 General Ability Test was an objective-type paper conducted for a total of 600 marks. The paper contained 150 questions and candidates were given 2 hours and 30 minutes to complete it. GAT was divided into two parts: Part A comprised English and carried 200 marks, while Part B comprised General Knowledge and carried 400 marks. The English section evaluated a candidate's understanding of grammar, vocabulary, comprehension and correct usage of the language.

Part B of the GAT assessed General Knowledge across Physics, Chemistry, General Science, History, Freedom Movement, Geography and Current Events. The General Knowledge section was designed to test a candidate's awareness of basic scientific concepts, important historical developments, geographical phenomena and major national and international events.

Each question in the NDA GAT paper carries 4 marks. There is negative marking for incorrect responses, and one-third of the marks assigned to a question is deducted for every wrong answer. This means approximately 1.33 marks are deducted for an incorrect response. No penalty is applied to questions that are not attempted. Therefore, candidates should consider both accuracy and the number of attempts while estimating their score with the NDA 2 GAT Answer Key 2026.

The question paper was objective in nature, with candidates required to select the most appropriate answer from the options provided. Since the GAT carries 600 out of the total 900 marks in the NDA written examination, performance in this paper can have a significant impact on the overall written examination score.

NDA Mock Tests

NDA 2 GAT Topic-Wise Weightage 2026

NDA GAT is divided into Part A English and Part B General Knowledge. English carries 200 marks, while General Knowledge accounts for 400 marks. Part B covers six broad areas: Physics, Chemistry, General Science, History and Freedom Movement, Geography and Current Events.

UPSC indicates approximate weightage for the subjects included in Part B rather than prescribing a fixed number of questions for every subject. Therefore, the actual number of questions asked from individual subjects in NDA 2 GAT 2026 may vary. The approximate distribution given below can help candidates understand the relative importance of different areas of the GAT syllabus.

Subject Approx. Weightage Major Areas
English Part A Grammar, Vocabulary, Comprehension, Usage and Cohesion
Physics Approx. 25% of Part B Mechanics, Heat, Light, Electricity, Magnetism and Basic Physical Concepts
Chemistry Approx. 15% of Part B Elements, Compounds, Chemical Reactions, Acids, Bases and Everyday Chemistry
General Science Approx. 10% of Part B Biology, Human Body, Diseases, Nutrition and Basic Scientific Knowledge
History and Freedom Movement Approx. 20% of Part B Indian History, Freedom Struggle, Constitution, Administration and Social Developments
Geography Approx. 20% of Part B Physical Geography, Climate, Resources, India and World Geography
Current Events Approx. 10% of Part B National and International Events, Defence, Sports, Awards and Important Developments

Note: The approximate question count mentioned above is derived from the indicative subject-wise weightage of the 100-question General Knowledge portion. UPSC does not prescribe a compulsory fixed number of questions from each individual subject, and the actual distribution in NDA 2 GAT 2026 may differ.

NDA 2 GAT English Weightage 2026

English forms Part A of the NDA General Ability Test and carries 200 marks. The section generally assesses vocabulary, grammar, sentence usage and reading comprehension. Questions may test a candidate's ability to identify correct grammatical structures, understand words in context, interpret passages and use English accurately. Since English contributes one-third of the total GAT marks, candidates should not overlook this section while estimating their overall performance.

NDA 2 GAT Physics Weightage 2026

Physics has the highest indicative weightage among the individual subjects in Part B, accounting for approximately 25% of the General Knowledge portion. Questions can test fundamental concepts related to matter, motion, work, power, energy, heat, sound, light, electricity and magnetism. Candidates can use the detailed NDA 2 GAT solutions to check whether they applied the appropriate scientific concepts while answering numerical and conceptual questions.

NDA 2 GAT Chemistry Weightage 2026
