Mediterranean Climate - Geography Notes

Mediterranean Climate is defined by mild wet winters and warm to hot, dry summers that occur on the west side of continents between 30° and 40° latitude. Mediterranean climate, also called dry summer temperature climate gets its name from the Mediterranean Basin, which has the most of this climate type. The presence of a relatively large body of water, on the other hand, is unique to the Mediterranean region. Mediterranean climate, a Köppen climatic type, is described by hot, dry summers and cool, wet winters. The topic “Mediterranean Climate” is an important part of the UPSC/IAS Exam Geography syllabus which is discussed in this article in detail.

  • The coldest month's temperature is less than 180°C but greater than –30°C.
