Due to its diverse geological structure, India is endowed with a diverse range of mineral resources. After Zimbabwe, India processes the world's second-largest manganese reserves. After China, Gabon, South Africa, and Australia, India is the world's fifth-largest producer. The major manganese ore-producing states are Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka. More than half of India's manganese is produced in Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh combined. Andhra Pradesh
  • Manganese production accounts for 13% of India's total.

  • Srikakulam district holds the distinction of being India's first manganese ore producer (1892).
  • Other manganese-producing districts include Cuddapah, Vijayanagaram, and Guntur.
Karnataka
  • Karnataka is another major producer, with mines in Dharwar, Ballari, Belagavi, North Canara, Chikkmagaluru, Shivamogga, and other places.
