Mahmud Khalji (1436–69 CE), also known as Ala-ud-Din Mahmud Shah I, was the Sultan of the Malwa Sultanate in the 15th century, in what is now the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. Khilji became Sultan after assassinating Mohammad, the son of the previous monarch, Hoshang Shah, in 1435. He tried unsuccessfully to overthrow the Delhi Sultanate, but it was during his rule that the Malwa Sultanate attained its pinnacle.   • A battle of Mandavgad took place between Rana Kumbha and Mahmud Khalji in 1437 in which Rana Kumbha defeated and captured Mehmud Khalji.
  • A series of battles between Mahmud Khalji of Malwa and Rana Kumbha of Mewar known as Mandalgarh and Banas Battles took place between 1442 and 1446.
  • The Sultan, exhausted by these battles, did not invade Mewar for another ten years.
  • Sultan Mahmud besieged Gagron, which belonged to Palhan Singh Khichi, in February 1444.
  • Rana Kumbha dispatched troops under the command of Dahir, but Dahir was killed in battle, and Palhan was killed by bhils who were fleeing the fort.

  • He marched towards Gujarat with an army of 80,000 horses after capturing and protecting Champaner.
  • Soon after the death of Muhammad Shah II, Kutb-ud-Din Ahmad Shah II took his place.
  • Sultanpur had been besieged by Mahmud Khilji.
