The correct answer is

(a), (b), (c) and (d)

The four items describe successive functions a teacher performs, and the question is whether any of them can be dispensed with.

Diagnosis, item (a), comes first. The teacher must find out what learners already know, where they are weak and what misconceptions they hold, since teaching that ignores the starting point either repeats what is known or assumes what is not.

Remedy, item (b), follows from diagnosis. Having identified difficulties, the teacher must act on them through re-explanation, additional practice or a different approach. Diagnosis without remedy is merely measurement.

Direction, item (c), is needed throughout. Teaching must be guided by clear objectives and must lead learners along a planned path towards them, otherwise activity proceeds without purpose.

Feedback, item (d), closes the loop in both directions. Learners need to know how they are doing so they can correct themselves, and the teacher needs feedback to know whether the teaching is working, which in turn feeds the next round of diagnosis.

Taken together these four form a cycle rather than a list: diagnose, remedy, direct, obtain feedback, and diagnose again. Since each depends on the others, none can be omitted from good teaching.

Hence all of (a), (b), (c) and (d) are required.
