Water Images – CSAT Notes

Images of objects seen in water are known as water images. Water reflections is another name for them. A water image is created when an original object is seen in the water. The only difference between water images and mirror images is that the water image changes from top to bottom or vice versa. In addition, mirror images change from left to right or vice versa. The basic principles and strategies for solving these questions in the UPSC-CSAT are explained here.

What are Water Images?

  • The water image of an object is its reflection in the water. It appears when an object is inverted vertically or turned upside down.
  • If the mirror is horizontally at the bottom of the picture, the water image of the figure seems to be the mirror image of the figure.
  • The water image is inverted from a real image in which the L H S and R H S remain in their original positions, i.e., on the same side as they are in the original figure, but the top and bottom of the figure are exchanged, i.e., the top becomes the bottom and the bottom becomes the top.
