Hospital waste can be in the form of solid or liquid. It is a particular type of waste that is produced in small quantities but has a high risk of infection and damage. If hospital waste is not managed appropriately, it can have major health consequences for the general public. Chemicals (medical and industrial), outdated medications, and sharps (needles, scalpels, lancets, etc) are all examples of hospital waste. About 85% of the waste generated by health-care activities is normal, non-hazardous waste. The remaining 15% is classified as hazardous waste, which could be infectious, poisonous, or radioactive.
