Groundwater pollution occurs when materials such as pesticides and fertilizers, toxic substances from mining sites, untreated waste from septic tanks, toxic chemicals, and leaky landfills from the land's surface move through the soil and enter the groundwater, thus making it unsuitable for human consumption.
