The profits of three partners are in the ratio 2 : 3 : 4. If their profits increase by 50%, 40%, and 30%, what is the new ratio of profits?
3 : 4.2 : 5.2
Let the original profits be \(2k,\ 3k\) and \(4k\) for the three partners.
The first profit increases by 50%, becoming \(2k\times 1.5=3k\).
The second profit increases by 40%, becoming \(3k\times 1.4=4.2k\).
The third profit increases by 30%, becoming \(4k\times 1.3=5.2k\).
So the new profits are \(3k,\ 4.2k,\ 5.2k\).
Cancelling the common factor \(k\), the new ratio is \(3:4.2:5.2\).
Hence the new ratio of profits is 3 : 4.2 : 5.2.
