Cirrus Clouds are the kind of clouds that are formed at high altitudes varying from 8,000 – 12,000 meters. They are smaller thin clouds with a feathery look. Most of the time, they appear white in color.
Cumulus Clouds are mostly present at a height varying from 4,000– 7,000 meters and most of the time they look like cotton wool. They are present in smaller patches and can be seen scattered here and there. They are formed with a flat base.
Stratus Clouds are horizontal, stratified or sometimes layered clouds that cover huge portions of the sky. The reason for the occurrence of these kinds of clouds is the mixing of air masses with various temperatures or in case there is lesser heat. In case there are stratus clouds in the atmosphere it means a chilly atmosphere.
Nimbus Clouds are mostly formed at areas that are located at lower altitudes. The color of these clouds is black or dark grey. These clouds block the sunlight and are the reason for causing heavy rainfall and thunderstorms.
Clouds are differentiated according to their formation at different heights. The altitude at which different kinds of clouds are formed varies based on the polar region, tropical region, etc.
