Write salient Histological Features of Basic tissues of the Body.
The human body is composed of four basic tissues, each with unique histological characteristics. Epithelial tissue covers body surfaces, lines cavities, and forms glands. Its cells are tightly packed with minimal extracellular matrix, arranged in single or multiple layers, resting on a basement membrane, and lacking blood vessels (avascular). Connective tissue differs by having abundant extracellular matrix with scattered cells, providing structural support, strength, and flexibility. Its matrix may be fibrous, cartilaginous, or fluid, containing fibers like collagen and elastin, along with cells such as fibroblasts, adipocytes, and immune cells. Muscle tissue is composed of elongated fibers containing contractile proteins, enabling movement and force generation. It occurs in three types: skeletal (striated, voluntary), cardiac (striated, involuntary with intercalated discs), and smooth (non-striated, involuntary). Nervous tissue coordinates communication through neurons, which transmit electrical impulses via dendrites and axons, while glial cells provide protection, nourishment, and structural support.
