Jayaram Pindye was a court-poet attached to the household of Shahji Bhosle at Bengaluru in the second quarter of the seventeenth century. His Sanskrit champu — a mixed prose-and-verse mahakavya — is one of the most valuable Sanskrit sources for the political history of the Deccan on the eve of the rise of the Maratha state.
The Radha-Madhava-Vilasa-Champu narrates the exploits of Shahji Raje Bhosle: his service under the Nizamshahi, Adilshahi and briefly the Mughals, his attempt to revive the Nizamshahi sultanate in 1632–33 by placing the boy-king Murtaza on the throne at Pemgiri, and his subsequent career as an Adilshahi noble in Karnataka. The work also contains a famous chapter listing the polyglot scholars of Shahji's Bengaluru court.
Vyankoji, Shivaji and Rajaram all belonged to a later generation and are the subjects of other bakhars and charitas, not of Pindye's champu.
