The correct answer is

Both Statement I and Statement II are true.

India has a documented history of learning and scholarship stretching back thousands of years, and this ancient tradition of knowledge is well attested by physical and textual evidence.
Statement I is true: from the Vedic period onward, India developed organised systems of learning through gurukulas, ashrams, and later large institutions such as Takshashila and Nalanda, making it a recognised centre of learning since ancient times, one that attracted scholars from distant lands like China, Central Asia and South-East Asia.
Statement II is also true: the existence and content of this ancient learning tradition is corroborated by surviving stone inscriptions, copper-plate records, palm-leaf (tada-patra) manuscripts, and scriptures/texts (such as the Vedas, Upanishads, and various shastras), which together provide historical evidence of the subjects taught, the institutions that existed, and the methods of instruction used.
Since both the claim about India's ancient status as a learning hub and the claim about documentary and epigraphic evidence supporting it are historically accurate and mutually reinforcing, both Statement I and Statement II are true.
