E-governance, as a critical tool of governance, has ushered in effectiveness, transparency and accountability in governments. What inadequacies hamper the enhancement of these features?

E-governance has indeed emerged as a critical tool, ushering in greater effectiveness through streamlined processes and faster service delivery. It significantly enhances transparency by making governmental information and transactions readily accessible to citizens, and bolsters accountability by creating digital trails for decisions and resource utilization, reducing discretion and corruption.

However, several inadequacies continue to hamper the full enhancement of these features. A prominent issue is the persistent 'digital divide,' encompassing limited internet penetration and low digital literacy, particularly in rural and marginalized areas, which excludes a large segment of the population. Concerns over cybersecurity vulnerabilities and the protection of personal data erode public trust in online services. Furthermore, a lack of interoperability between various departmental systems often creates digital silos, hindering seamless, integrated service delivery. Bureaucratic resistance to adopting new technologies, inadequate training for personnel, and insufficient online grievance redressal mechanisms also impede the complete realization of e-governance's transformative potential.
