Question

Consider f(N) = g(N) + h(N)

Where function g is a measure of the cost of getting from the start node to the current node N and h is an estimate of additional cost of getting from the current node N to the goal node. Then f(N) = h(N) is used in which one of the following algorithms ?

UGC NET 2014 Paper 1 Question Paper (28-Dec-2014)
The correct answer is

Greedy best first search algorithm

A* evaluates nodes by \(f(N) = g(N) + h(N)\), combining the path cost so far with the heuristic estimate.

If the path cost is ignored and only \(f(N) = h(N)\) is used, the search always expands the node that looks closest to the goal.

That is exactly greedy best first search; A*, AO* and iterative deepening A* all keep the g(N) term.

Hence, Greedy best first search algorithm.
