The correct answer is

context

Qualitative and quantitative research spring from different worldviews, so they value different things.
Quantitative research is rooted in positivism. It wants to measure variables numerically, establish cause-and-effect (causality), and produce findings that can be generalized to a wider population. To do that it deliberately strips away the surrounding situation so the numbers stay comparable.
Qualitative research is rooted in interpretivism. It studies human behaviour and meaning as they actually occur, in a specific setting, culture and time. The researcher believes that an action makes sense only in relation to the situation in which it happens, so the surrounding setting is treated as central rather than as noise to be removed.
Therefore, compared with quantitative researchers, qualitative researchers place far greater emphasis on the setting or surroundings in which behaviour occurs.
Why the other choices belong to the quantitative side: measuring variables into numbers, hunting for cause-and-effect, and generalizing results from a sample to a whole population are all defining goals of quantitative research, not the distinctive strength of qualitative work.
