The correct answer is

21%

Let the cost price be \( C \). The marked price is \( C \times 1.42 \) and the selling price is \( C \times 1.42 \times 0.85 \). Therefore, the selling price becomes: \[ 1.42 \times 0.85 = 1.207 \] The profit percentage is: \[ \frac{1.207C - C}{C} \times 100 = 20.7\% \] Rounding off gives the percentage profit as 21%.
