Question

A ₹36,000 annual bonus is distributed among Sales, Marketing, and Operations in a 4:5:3 ratio. Marketing uses ₹3,000 for team building and ₹1,500 for an intern, then allocates the rest to two top performers in a 5:4 ratio. How much does the top performer with the smaller share receive?

SSC CGL 2025 Tier 2 Paper 1 Question Paper (19-Jan-2026)
The correct answer is

₹4,666.67

Step 1 – Marketing's share:

Total ratio = \(4 + 5 + 3 = 12\). Marketing's share = \(\dfrac{5}{12} \times 36{,}000 = 15{,}000\).

Step 2 – Amount left after expenses:

\(15{,}000 - 3{,}000 - 1{,}500 = 10{,}500\).

Step 3 – Split ₹10,500 in 5:4:

Smaller share = \(\dfrac{4}{9} \times 10{,}500 = \dfrac{42{,}000}{9} \approx 4{,}666.67\).

Hence the top performer with the smaller share receives ₹4,666.67.
