NIFT 2017 GAT Sections

NIFT 2017 GAT had the usual set of sections, and this mix has changed little since. Design courses took the general aptitude sections, while the technology courses also had a case study. The list below shows what each section covered.

● Quantitative Ability: percentages, ratio and proportion, interest, work and time, and distance.

● Communication Ability and English Comprehension: vocabulary, grammar and reading passages.

● Analytical Ability and Logical Ability: reasoning from given information.

● General Knowledge and Current Affairs: everyday awareness with a design and fashion focus.

● Case Study: an extra section for B.FTech, M.FTech and MFM, with engineering questions added for M.FTech.

NIFT 2017 Situation Test

NIFT 2017 shortlisted B.Des candidates took a Situation Test after the written stage. In this test, candidates build a small model from a given set of materials and write a short note in English. The model is scored on space use, material handling, composition, colour and finish.

Time Management for NIFT GAT

NIFT 2017 GAT rewarded a steady pace more than tough problem-solving, since the paper was long for the time given. B.Des had 100 questions in 2 hours, and the technology courses had 150 questions in 3 hours, which is a little over a minute per question. The pointers below help you use that time well when you practise the paper.

● Aim for about a minute per question, and mark the long ones to return to later.

● Clear General Knowledge and Current Affairs first, since these are quick to answer.

● Keep the calculation-heavy quantitative questions for a second pass.

● Leave a few minutes at the end to attempt every remaining question, since design courses had no penalty.
