AFCAT 2023 Exam Pattern and Marking Scheme

AFCAT 2023 followed the standard IAF structure, the same base AFCAT exam pattern is still used today. Knowing the marking rules before you attempt an old paper keeps your practice score realistic.

Feature Details
Question Type Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs)
Total Questions 100
Total Marks 300
Duration 120 minutes
Medium English
Marking Scheme +3 for correct, -1 for wrong, 0 for unattempted

AFCAT 2023 Section Wise Question Distribution

Both AFCAT 2023 sessions split the paper evenly across all four sections, unlike some other AFCAT cycles where Reasoning or English carry extra questions. This equal split is one of the clearest differences between the 2023 papers and more recent AFCAT sessions.

Section Questions Marks
General Awareness 25 75
Verbal Ability in English 25 75
Numerical Ability 25 75
Reasoning and Military Aptitude 25 75
Total 100 300

AFCAT 1 2023 Paper Difficulty Level, February Session

Candidate feedback across the three February days rated the paper moderate overall, with the 26 February shift standing out as the toughest of the session because of a harder Reasoning set.

Section Difficulty Key Observation
General Awareness Moderate Mostly current affairs from early 2023
Verbal Ability in English Easy to Moderate Passage, error detection and rearrangement questions were common
Numerical Ability Moderate Formula based, some calculative sets
Reasoning and Military Aptitude Moderate to Tough Hardest section on 26 February in particular

AFCAT 2 2023 Paper Difficulty Level, August Session

The August session felt easier overall than February, with Reasoning turning into the strongest scoring section this time around instead of the toughest.

Section Difficulty Key Observation
General Awareness Moderate Heavy on static GK and polity
Verbal Ability in English Moderate Balanced mix of grammar and vocabulary
Numerical Ability Moderate Arithmetic heavy, simplification and mensuration featured often
Reasoning and Military Aptitude Easy Rated the easiest section across all three August days

AFCAT 2023 Good Attempts and Expected Score

Since every wrong answer costs a mark, good attempts matter more than raw attempts. Use the ranges below to set a realistic target before you time yourself on an old paper.

Session Good Attempts (out of 100)
AFCAT 1 2023 (February) 65 to 75
AFCAT 2 2023 (August) 70 to 80

Important Topics Asked in AFCAT 2023 Question Paper

The same handful of topics kept showing up across both 2023 sessions. This table is built from the actual questions candidates recalled after each shift, not the general AFCAT syllabus.

AFCAT 2023 Cutoff Marks; AFCAT 1 and AFCAT 2

AFCAT 2023 cutoff came in lower for the August session than for February, once IAF normalised scores across the multiple shifts. For the latest cutoff figures, check the full AFCAT cutoff page.

Session Cutoff Marks (out of 300)
AFCAT 1 2023 155
AFCAT 2 2023 151 (normalised)

AFCAT Previous Year Papers are an essential practice resource for understanding the examination pattern and question trends followed by the Indian Air Force. Regular practice of the paper enables candidates to improve speed, accuracy, and time management while evaluating their performance through the answer key. It also helps aspirants prepare strategically for future AFCAT examinations by familiarising them with the expected level of questions. Building on this, a full length AFCAT mock test lets candidates apply the same trends under live exam conditions, so speed and accuracy are tested against the clock rather than at a relaxed practice pace.

AFCAT 2023 Question Paper FAQs

Ques: Why did AFCAT 2 2023 cutoff come out lower than AFCAT 1 2023 cutoff?

Ans: Cutoff depends on vacancies, applicant numbers and paper difficulty each session, not just the raw score. A slightly easier August paper combined with a different vacancy count pushed the August cutoff below the February one.

Ques: Does solving AFCAT 2023 question paper help with the EKT paper too?

Ans: No. AFCAT 2023 papers cover only the four common sections, General Awareness, English, Numerical Ability and Reasoning. The Engineering Knowledge Test is a separate paper with its own question bank.

Ques: Is there a sectional cutoff within AFCAT 2023 question paper?

Ans: No. AFCAT has never used a sectional cutoff. Your total score across all four sections decides whether you clear the written stage, so a weak section can still be offset by a stronger one.

Ques: How is AFCAT 2023 question paper different from the AFCAT 2025 question paper?

Ans: The biggest difference is the section split. AFCAT 2023 gave 25 questions to each of the four sections, while more recent AFCAT sessions shifted to an uneven split with more weight on Reasoning and Military Aptitude.
