Who is the author of the book 'Gandhi in Champaran', which describes Mahatma Gandhi's first Satyagraha struggle on Indian soil in 1917?
D.G. Tendulkar
The Champaran Satyagraha of 1917, in the Champaran district of Bihar, was Mahatma Gandhi's first major experiment with satyagraha on Indian soil, launched against the oppressive tinkathia system that forced peasants to grow indigo on part of their land for European planters.
The book 'Gandhi in Champaran' was authored by D.G. Tendulkar, a noted chronicler of Gandhi's life who is best remembered for the monumental eight-volume biography 'Mahatma: Life of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi'.
Because of his careful, document-based approach, Tendulkar's works are treated as authoritative records, and this particular title focuses closely on the sequence, methods and impact of the Champaran struggle.
Rajendra Prasad did take an active part in the Champaran movement and wrote his own separate memoir-style account of it, but he is not the author of this specific book, so that option is incorrect.
Toru Dutt was a 19th-century Indo-Anglian poet known for verse and translation, while Kamala Das was a 20th-century poet and writer known for confessional poetry, and neither wrote on the Champaran Satyagraha.
Hence, the correct answer is D.G. Tendulkar.
