What is Prasar Bharati ?
It is India’s state owned Public Broadcaster
Prasar Bharati (Broadcasting Corporation of India) is a statutory autonomous body set up under the Prasar Bharati Act, 1990, which came into force in 1997. It was created to give public broadcasting autonomy from direct government control.
As of 2024 it is India’s state-owned public service broadcaster, and its two constituents are Doordarshan, the television network, and All India Radio (Akashvani), the radio network. Its mandate includes informing, educating and entertaining the public and promoting national integration.
It is not a news channel under Doordarshan; Doordarshan is a part of Prasar Bharati, not the other way round. It is not a news service of All India Radio either, since AIR is itself one of its constituents. It is not an association of private broadcasters; private broadcasters have their own industry bodies and are separate from the public broadcaster.
It is India’s state owned Public Broadcaster option is correct.
