The correct answer is

Statement i is false, but statement ii is true

A mass medium is a channel that carries messages from a source to a large, varied and scattered audience. The internet has become such a channel: news portals, streaming platforms and public social media pages reach millions of people at once. At the same time, e-mail, chat and video calls let individuals talk to each other directly, so the internet supports both kinds of communication.

Statement i claims that the internet has no clear institutional status and therefore is not a mass medium. This reasoning is wrong. Lack of a single owner or a fixed institutional form does not stop a channel from being a mass medium; what matters is its reach to a large audience, and the internet is in fact widely treated as a new mass medium. So statement i is false. Statement ii says that the internet is a medium of both mass and interpersonal communication, which matches its actual use, so statement ii is true.

Since statement i is false, the choices that accept it as true, including the claim that both statements are true, cannot be right. The choice saying both statements are false is also wrong, because statement ii correctly describes the dual nature of the internet. Only the combination of a false first statement and a true second statement fits.

Hence, Statement i is false, but statement ii is true.
