Question

The equivalent hexadecimal notation for octal number 2550276 is :

This question was previously asked in
UGC NET 2015 Paper 1 Question Paper (27-Dec-2015)
The correct answer is

ADOBE

Convert octal to binary by writing each octal digit as 3 bits, then regroup the bits in 4s from the right to read the hexadecimal digits.

\(2550276_{8} = 010\ 101\ 101\ 000\ 010\ 111\ 110_{2}\)

Regrouping: \(1010\ 1101\ 0000\ 1011\ 1110_{2}\)

\(= A\ D\ 0\ B\ E = AD0BE_{16}\)

The letter O in the printed choice stands for the digit 0, so the value reads as ADOBE; FADED, AEOBE and ACABE give different bit patterns.

Check: \(AD0BE_{16} = 708798_{10}\) and \(2550276_{8} = 708798_{10}\).

Hence, ADOBE.
