Number of employees and monthly salary per employee in five departments of a company

DepartmentNumber of EmployeesMonthly Salary per Employee (₹)
HR4045,000
Finance3060,000
Marketing5036,000
Administration6040,000
IT2075,000

The company’s total monthly salary expenditure on the IT department is what fraction of the total monthly salary expenditure of the company on all five departments ?

This question was previously asked in
UPSSSC PET 2026 Question Paper (25-Oct-2026) (Shift-2)
The correct answer is

\( \frac{5}{31} \)

IT salary expenditure = \( 20 \times 75000 = 1500000 \) and the total for all five departments = ₹ 93,00,000.

Required fraction = \( \frac{1500000}{9300000} = \frac{15}{93} \).

Dividing numerator and denominator by 3: \( \frac{15}{93} = \frac{5}{31} \).

Check: \( \frac{5}{31} \times 9300000 = 1500000 \), which matches the IT expenditure.

Hence, \( \frac{5}{31} \).
