The correct answer is

(a), (b) and (c)

Teaching aids are the materials and devices a teacher uses to make instruction concrete - charts, models, films, slides and the like - and each statement has to be tested against what they actually achieve.

Statement (a) is correct. Aids engage more than one sense and give the learner a concrete image to attach the idea to, and material learned in this way is retained for longer than material heard once.

Statement (b) is correct. By making the abstract visible and the distant near, aids clarify concepts that words alone convey poorly, so students learn better.

Statement (c) is correct. Aids introduce variety and novelty into the lesson, hold attention and reduce monotony, which makes the teaching-learning process more interesting.

Statement (d) is incorrect, and it is the statement that decides the question. Teaching aids work against rote learning rather than enhancing it. Their whole purpose is to promote meaningful, understanding-based learning by giving the learner something to comprehend rather than merely memorise. Claiming they enhance rote learning inverts their function.

Since (a), (b) and (c) are correct while (d) is not, the second code applies.

Hence the correct statements are (a), (b) and (c).
