A formal explanation of the knowledge, skills, abilities, traits and other characteristics necessary for effective job performance is known as:
Job Specification
The stem describes a statement of the human attributes - knowledge, skills, abilities, traits - a person must have to perform a job well. The key is that it focuses on the person, not on the tasks.
A job specification is exactly this: it lists the qualifications, knowledge, skills, abilities, traits and other characteristics a job-holder needs for effective performance. It answers the question 'what kind of person is required to do this job?'
A job description, by contrast, states the duties, responsibilities and tasks of the job - what is to be done - rather than the qualities of the person doing it. Job analysis is the overall process of studying a job to produce both the description and the specification. Job enrichment is a job-design technique that adds depth and responsibility to a job. Only the job specification focuses on the human requirements.
Hence the formal explanation of the knowledge, skills, abilities and traits needed for effective performance is known as the job specification.
