Question

Which condition is required for a displacement reaction between a metal and salt solution?

The correct answer is

Metal must be higher in reactivity series

In a displacement reaction, a more reactive metal displaces a less reactive metal from the latter's salt solution.

Condition: The metal must be higher in the reactivity (activity) series than the metal in the salt solution.

Example: Zn + CuSO₄ → ZnSO₄ + Cu (Zinc displaces Copper because Zn is above Cu in the series).

If the displacing metal is lower in the series, no reaction occurs.
