As a part of social transformation ....................... made efforts in widow re-marriage.
Savitribai Phule
Savitribai Phule, along with Jyotirao Phule, worked actively for the cause of widows in nineteenth-century Maharashtra. They supported widow re-marriage, opposed the tonsuring of widows and started the Balhatya Pratibandhak Griha (1863) to protect pregnant widows and their infants.
She is also remembered as the first woman teacher of the girls' school started by the Phules in Pune in 1848, making her a pioneer of social transformation through education.
Swami Vivekananda is known chiefly for spiritual revival and the Ramakrishna Mission, Sri Aurobindo for integral yoga and integral education, and Mahatma Gandhi for Basic Education and the freedom movement; none of them is identified with practical work for widow re-marriage in the way the Phules are.
Hence, the reformer who made efforts in widow re-marriage is Savitribai Phule.
