The correct answer is

Both (A) and (R) are true and (R) is the correct explanation of (A)

Assertion (A) is true: Gandhiji clarified that he was not against machinery as such but against the "craze for machinery"; he welcomed machines, such as the Singer sewing machine, that lighten human toil without displacing labour or concentrating wealth.

Reason (R) is true: in Hind Swaraj and his later writings he opposed an urban-industrial system that drew raw materials and surplus from villages and exploited the labour of peasants and artisans, which he saw as a parasitic relationship.

R explains A: because his objection was to exploitation and centralisation, not to machines in themselves, he accepted mechanisation that served the village and the worker while rejecting industrialism that lived off rural labour.

Hence, the answer is Both (A) and (R) are true and (R) is the correct explanation of (A).
