Maslow’s concept of Meta-Motivation is very much similar to the concept of :
Nishkama karma
Abraham Maslow described two kinds of motivation. Deficiency motivation (D-motives) drives behaviour to fill lacks such as hunger, safety, belonging and esteem. Meta-motivation (growth or B-motives) operates in self-actualising people who are no longer driven by deficits; they act for the sake of Being-values such as truth, goodness, beauty, justice and wholeness.
Meta-motivated action is done for its own intrinsic worth, not for a reward or to remove a need. The person is absorbed in the task itself and is relatively unconcerned with personal gain.
This closely parallels the Bhagavad Gita’s idea of Nishkama karma, action performed as duty without attachment to its fruits (phala). Both describe selfless, value-driven, non-instrumental action that springs from a mature, integrated personality.
The other Indian concepts do not match as well: Siddhi is attainment of perfection or special powers, Bhakti is devotional surrender to a deity, and Moksha is final liberation from the cycle of birth and death, a goal rather than a mode of motivated action.
Hence, the answer is Nishkama karma.
