Question

A and B can complete a task in 12 days together. A is 25% more efficient than B. What percentage of the work is done by A alone?

SSC CGL 2025 Tier 1 Question Paper (25-Sep-2025) (Shift 3)
The correct answer is

55.56%

Since A is 25% more efficient than B, the ratio of their efficiencies is \(A:B = 125:100 = 5:4\).

Let A's daily work rate be \(5k\) and B's be \(4k\), so their combined rate is \(9k\) per day.

Together they complete the work in 12 days, so \(9k \times 12 = 1\) (total work), giving \(k = \frac{1}{108}\).

The percentage of work done by A alone (out of the combined work) is \(\frac{5k}{9k} \times 100 = \frac{5}{9} \times 100\).

Calculating, \(\frac{5}{9} \times 100 = 55.56\%\).

Hence, the answer is 55.56%.
