According to the latest BPSC examination calendar, TRE 4.0 has been placed under the two-stage PT + Mains category. However, BPSC has not yet released the detailed paper-wise pattern, number of questions, marks distribution and duration for the TRE 4.0 Preliminary and Main examinations. Candidates should therefore wait for the detailed TRE 4.0 advertisement before treating any section-wise pattern as final.
For preparation purposes, the previous TRE 3.0 pattern can be used as a reference until the TRE 4.0 scheme is officially notified. In TRE 3.0, the examination contained 150 objective questions for 150 marks and had a duration of 2 hours 30 minutes. For Primary Teachers, the paper consisted of Language and General Studies, while papers for Classes 6–8, 9–10 and 11–12 included Language, General Studies and a Concerned Subject. The Language section was qualifying in nature. The exact TRE 4.0 format may change because BPSC has now classified the recruitment under a PT + Mains structure.
The table below shows the previous TRE paper distribution to help candidates understand the likely areas of importance until the new pattern is released.
| Section | Previous TRE Questions | Previous TRE Marks | Approx. Weightage |
|---|---|---|---|
| Language – Qualifying | 30 | 30 | 20% |
| General Studies | 120 | 120 | 80% |
| Total | 150 | 150 | 100% |
For Primary Teacher posts, General Studies carried the largest share in the previous TRE pattern. It covered areas such as Elementary Mathematics, Mental Ability, General Awareness, General Science, Social Science, Geography, Environmental Studies and the Indian National Movement.
| Section | Previous TRE Questions | Previous TRE Marks | Approx. Weightage |
|---|---|---|---|
| Language – Qualifying | 30 | 30 | 20% |
| General Studies | 40 | 40 | 26.67% |
| Concerned Subject | 80 | 80 | 53.33% |
| Total | 150 | 150 | 100% |
For Middle, Secondary and Senior Secondary Teacher posts, the Concerned Subject carried the highest weightage in the previous pattern, with 80 questions. Candidates were therefore required to have a strong command of the subject selected for the teacher post along with adequate preparation for General Studies.
The Language section in the previous TRE cycle tested practical knowledge of English along with Hindi, Urdu, Bengali or another applicable language. Candidates should note that these figures are based on the earlier TRE pattern and are not yet the officially notified TRE 4.0 Prelims/Mains weightage.
