SSC Stenographer is organized by Staff Selection Commission to recruit eligible candidates for the post of Grade C and D stenographer in central government organizations. SSC Stenographer 2020 exam was scheduled to be conducted from May 5- May 7, 2020 has been postponed due to COVID-19. 

The revised schedule of examination will be announced after June 1, 2020 by Staff Selection Commission. Union Minister Jitendra Singh on April 19, 2020 tweeted, "SSC examinations that were put on hold due to lockdown, will definitely take place. We will take a call after May 3, 2020 and reschedule dates in a manner that it gives sufficient time to all aspirants to reach their designated exam centers."

  • SSC Stenographer Eligibility​ requires a candidate to have passed class 12 or equivalent as on January 1, 2020 and possess stenography skills.
  • The exam is conducted through two stages- written exam and skill test. Check Exam Pattern
  • SSC Stenographer is a computer based test having 200 mulitple choice questions.

SSC Stenographer Eligibility 2020

Aspirants of SSC Stenographer 2020 will have to fulfill certain eligibility requirements to successfully fill the application form.

Academic Qualification

  • Candidates must have passed 10+2 or any equivalent exam from a recognized board or university as on January 1, 2020.

Nationality

A candidate must be either:

  1. A citizen of India, or 
  2. A subject of Nepal, or 
  3. A subject of Bhutan, or
  4. A Tibetan refugee who seeked asylum in India before January 1, 1962. 
  5. Person with indian origins who has transferred from one of the following countries: Myanmar, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, etc.

Provided that a candidate belonging to categories (2), (3), (4) and (5) have to produce a certificate of eligibility at the time of offer of appointment. 

Age Limit (as on January 1, 2020)

  • The age of the candidate must be between 18 to 30 years for Grade-C and between 18 to 27 years for Grade-D .
  • Candidates belonging to SC/ ST/ OBC/ PH/ Ex-Servicemen, Central Government Employees, and J&K domiciled category can avail age relaxation as per the Government of India norms.

SSC Stenographer Reservation 2020

Candidates belonging to the SC/ EWS/ ST/ OBC/ Ex-servicemen/ Physically Disabled categories can claim reservation during SSC Stenographer 2019 Selection Process.

  • Persons with One Arm (OA)/One Leg (OL)/Both Legs (BL)/Blind (B) or Low Vision (LV) disabilities can apply for Grade C as per the guidelines of Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.
  • While for Grade D post can be filled by candidates suffering from One Arm (OA)/One Leg (OL)/One Arm and Leg (OAL)/Both Legs (BL)/Blind (B) or Low Vision (LV) disabilities.
  • Individuals who have an adequate Hearing Impairment (HI) are not eligible for the position of SSC Stenographer.

SSC Stenographer Application Form 2020

SSC releases online applications for SSC Stenographer 2020. Candidates can fill the appication form by following the below given steps:

SSC Stenographer Application Form

Step 1: SSC Registration

  • Visit the official website of SSC and navigate to click on “Apply”
  • Click on “Steno C & D” tab and click on “Apply now” link.
  • Enter the details (name, father’s name, date of birth, gender) to register for the SSC Stenographer.
  • Enter text or captcha in the field provided.
  • The new window to enter the personal, basic and contact details in the SSC Stenographer Application Form
  • Enter the captcha at the end and click on ‘Submit’
  • You will receive an SMS and an Email stating your registration number and password.

Step 2: Upload Photo and Signature

Candidates have to upload scanned images of their color passport size photograph and signature in described specifications:

Step 4: SSC Stenographer Fee Payment

There is an option to pay the application fee both in offline and online mode:

Online Mode

  • Choose the payment gateway among Net banking/ Debit/ Credit Card or BHIM UPI
  • Enter the details and pay the fees. 

Offline Mode

  • Download e-challan from the official website before October 20, 2019.
  • Submit the cash in nearest SBI Bank branch along with this challan.

SSC Stenographer 2020 Admit Card/ Hall Ticket

Candidates will be issued SSC Stenographer Admit Card in the month of April, 2020. They can download the SSC Stenographer Admit card from the official website of SSC. The steps to download SSC Stenographer 2019 Admit card are given below:

  • Visit the official website of SSC
  • Follow the link ‘download SSC Stenographer Admit Card 2020’
  • Enter the details asked such as roll number, date of birth, candidate’s name etc.
  • Post verification of the entered details, click on Submit
  • Download the Admit Card if the information mentioned on it is correct.
  • Print  admit card for further neccessary application. 

SSC Stenographer Admit card is available on the website 2 weeks prior to the date of the exam. There is different SSC Stenographer Admit card for both written examination and skill test. The discrepancies related to the SSC Stenographer Admit card are entertained at the Regional centers for different states.


SSC Stenographer Exam Centers 2020

Candidates have to mention the center code along with the preferred choice of SSC Stenographer Exam Center while filling up the application form. 

  • The allocated SSC Stenographer Exam Center is mentioned on the admit card.
  • Candidates must enter the choice of exam center wisely.
  • Once selected, the commission will not approve any changes to the location to the exam center. 


SSC Stenographer Exam Pattern 2020

  • SSC Stenographer 2020 will be a computer based exam having multiple choice questions.
  • The question papers will be set in both English and Hindi (except for English language section).
  • Each question carries 1 mark and 0.25 mark will be deducted for each wrong answer.

    SSC Stenographer Skill Test 2020

    Candidates who qualify the written examination of SSC Stenographer 2020 are shortlisted for the skill test.

  • A dictation will be given to them for 10 minutes in English/Hindi.
  • They are required to type the same on a computer at a speed of 100 w.p.m. to be recruited for the post of a Grade C Stenographer, while for Grade D, he/she must type at a speed of 80 w.p.m.
  • Candidates with Visual Impairment have to transcribe the matter in 75 minutes for English or 100 minutes for Hindi Shorthand if they are applying for Grade D Stenographer.
  • For Grade C, the Visually Handicapped candidates have to transcribe the matter in 75 minutes for English or 95 minutes for Hindi shorthand test. The skill test for SSC Stenographer will be held at Regional or Sub-Regional Offices or other centers as decided by the Commission. The transcription is evaluated electronically post submission.

Ans. SSC Stenographer 2020 will be conducted on May 5-7, 2020

Ques. I belong to Bhutan, can I apply for this exam?

Ans. Yes, following cases are applicable to sit for SSC Stenographer 2020:

  • Citizen of Nepal
  • Citizen of Bhutan
  • Tibetan refugee, only if they come with the intention to stay in India
  • People born in India but migrated to Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka and East African countries

Ques. I have low vision in my right eye, can I apply for Grade D post?

Ans. Yes, you can apply for Both the posts, i.e., Grade C and Grade D posts even if you have low vision. However, you need to state proof of it in the prescribed format.

Ques. Why cannot I upload my signatures? There is a message depicting error, how should I fix it?

Ans. Make sure you are uploading your scanned images in the sizes and dimensions as specified. Failure in abiding by these guidelines can create this problem.

Ques. Can I change my exam center other than the preference I filled in SSC Stenographer 2020 Application Form?

Ans. This facility is not available for any of the candidates. You will be allocated the centers as per the preference filled in the application form. No request for change in exam center will be entertained.

Ques. Is there any negative marking in SSC Stenographer 2020 exam?

Ans. Yes, every incorrect answer will be penalized with 0.25 marks, i.e., 1/4th of the marks allocated to each question.

Ques. How much marks will I get for every correct answer?

Ans. 1 mark will be awarded for every correct answer.

Ques. What is the Tie Breaking criteria, in case I have the same marks as some other candidate?

Ans. SSC Stenographer 2020 will be conducted in two shifts- Morning and Evening Shift.

Ques. Can I change my shift from morning to evening?

Ans. No, candidates cannot change the shift they have been allocated by themselves. They will have to appear within the timings as mentioned in SSC Stenographer hall ticket.

Ques. I belong to PwD category, will I get extra time to complete the exam?

Ans. Yes, candidates with any kind of disability will be given extra 40 minutes to complete the exam.

Ques. I have some issues in visibility, Can I opt for scribe?

Ans. Yes, there is a provision of opting for a scribe. You will have to put a request for scribe prior to the commencement of the exam.
