The application window is open from April 24 to May 15, 2026, and candidates are advised to ensure they meet the eligibility criteria before submitting their forms to avoid rejection.

What is SSC Stenographer Exam?

Staff Selection Commission (SSC) conducts the national-level entrance tests for several organisations, and some of these organisations are Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Indo-Tibetan Border Police Force (ITBP), Border Security Force (BSF), Assam Rifles (AR) and Central Armed Police Force (CAPF). Candidates can register for the exam in online mode only at the official website – ssc.nic.in. The Staff Selection Commission has released the notification and a total of 731 vacancies for Stenographer Grade C and D. The desired candidates should know stenography in either English or Hindi. The aspirants will be shortlisted after a computer-based exam, which will be followed by a skill test in stenography.

  • The application process involves online registration, uploading scanned documents, filling out the application form and paying registration fees.
  • The registration fee is INR 100. Women, SC, ST, PwD and Ex-servicemen candidates are exempted from fee payment.
  • Payment can be done in offline mode through SBI challan or in online mode through Debit/ Credit card/ Net banking and BHIM UPI.
  • Successfully registered candidates will be issued an SSC Stenographer Admit Card before 15 days of the exam (tentatively).

Pre-requisites for SSC Stenographer 2026 Registration

Candidates will require the following documents and details during the application process:

  • A valid Mobile Number (to be verified through OTP)
  • An active Email ID (to be verified through OTP).
  • Aadhaar Number/ Voter ID Card/PAN/ Passport/ Driving License/ School or College ID or Employer ID (Govt./ PSU/ Private)
  • Class 10, 12 and other qualifications Marksheets
  • Scanned image of the candidate’s colour passport-size photograph(20 KB to 50 KB)
  • Scanned image of candidate’s signature(10 to 20 KB)
  • Category certificate, if any

How to Fill SSC Stenographer 2026 Application Form?

SSC Stenographer Application Form can be filled out online, and candidates are advised to have the necessary documents in hand prior to filling out the application form. Candidates applying for the first time have to register on the website before applying for the exam.

Step 1: New Registration

  • Candidates can register on the Staff Selection Commission website, www.ssc.nic.in
  • The home page will contain three columns, one for registration and edit options, one for details of the exam and application form, and one for printing the application and admit card
  • Candidates have to go to the New Registration column and click on the Register option
  • A new page will open, and the details for registration will be displayed
  • The page will contain details like Name, Father’s Name, Secondary Board Exam Roll Number, Date of Birth and Gender
  • Candidates might have to fill in all information twice for the verification Process
  • Enter the Captcha and click Enter

Step 2: Form Filling

  • The personal details form will contain questions like Name, Father’s Name, Mother’s Name, Date of Birth, and Gender
  • Enter the details as per the 10th certificate. The name, father’s name and mother’s name should be as per the Government certificates
  • The date of birth should be as per the 10th Marksheet
  • The Basic Details form will have questions like Aadhar Card Number, Category, Religion, Nationality, Disability details (if any) and Certificate Number
  • The Contact Details Form will contain questions like Address, State, Pincode, Mobile Number and Email
  • Click on the submit option and
  • Candidates should upload their photograph and signature
  • The photograph should be more than 20 kb, and the signature should be more than 50 kb. Check the following table:

  • The candidates should complete all mandatory columns to complete the registration process

Step 3: Post Preference

  • The next column will ask for details about the preference for posts
  • The details and codes of the post will be available in the exam notification
  • Enter qualification details in ascending order, starting from the highest degree
  • The work experience should be entered from the most recent to the last. A proper experience and a relieving letter is mandatory for the work to be considered valid
  • The contact details should be your permanent address and valid contact details

Step 4: SSC Stenographer Application Fee Payment

  • The exam fees can be paid online and offline.
  • Candidates can download the challan, make payment in SBI bank branches and enter the acknowledgement number.
  • Candidates can make online payment through net banking/ debit card/ credit card or BHIM UPI. Candidates can also claim for a fee exemption if they are an Ex-Serviceman, a Specially Challenged Person, etc.

SSC Stenographer 2026 Eligibility

Candidates must ensure that they fulfil the eligibility criteria laid down by SSC before applying for the exam. If it is found that the candidate does not satisfy any of the eligibility conditions at any stage of the exam, his/her candidature will be cancelled.

SSC Stenographer Age Limit

The minimum age limit for all the candidates as on January 1, 2026, is 18 years. Given below is the upper age limit for Grade C and D steno: However, relaxation is given to candidates from OBC and SC/ST category

  • Upper Age Limit for Grade C stenographer – 30 years
  • Upper Age Limit for Grade D stenographer – 27 years

Candidates belonging to reserved categories are given upper age relaxation as per government of India norms.

Ques. Can I apply offline for SSC Stenographer 2026?

Ans. No, SSC accepts only online applications. Even the offline payment of fees has been discontinued. You need to pay the application fees online through Credit Card/ Debit Card, Netbanking, Mobile Banking or UPI. 

Ques. What details can I change/edit in the submitted application form?

Ans. You can edit the details except a few non-editable fields like name, Father’s Name, Mother’s Name, Date of Birth, Gender, Nationality and Category.

Ques. Is there an interview round for the SSC Stenographer 2026 exam?

Ans. No, at present there is no interview round in the SSC Stenographer examination. There are two rounds that have been created for clearance of the examination. The first phase is the CBE (Computer Based Examination) and the second phase is the Stenography Skill Test. There is no provision for an interview.
