Staff Selection Commission specifies exam pattern for SSC Multi Tasking Staff recruitment. It is conducted through two papers – Paper I and Paper II. Paper I consists of objective type multiple choice questions while Paper II has descriptive questions.    

  • Paper 1 has 4 sections namely General English, General Intelligence and Reasoning, Numerical Aptitude, and General Awareness. Check SSC MTS Syllabus
  • The paper will be set in both English and Hindi language except general English section.  
  • Each question carries 1 mark and negative marking of 0.25 marks for each wrong answer will be applicable. Check SSC MTS Marking Scheme
  • Total duration of Paper I is 90 minutes. For visually handicapped and cerebral palsy candidates it is 120 minutes.
  • Paper 2 of SSC MTS is qualifying in nature and has one descriptive (Essay or Letter writing) question for 50 marks.
  • Total duration of Paper II is 30 minutes. For visually handicapped and cerebral palsy candidates it is 40 minutes.
  • Those who qualify Paper 1 as per SSC MTS Cutoff will be eligible to appear for Paper 2.

SSC MTS Exam Pattern 2020

Staff Selection Commission determines the exam pattern of multi tasking staff examination.

SSC MTS Paper I Pattern

  • The paper comprises of objective type multiple choice questions.
  • Duration of the exam is 1.5 hours.
  • Following table shows the marks distribution of the paper:

SSC MTS Paper II Pattern

  • Paper II is a descriptive paper and qualifying in nature. It tests elementary language skills of the candidates.
  • The paper consists of one question on short essay writing/letter writing in English or any language included in the 8th Schedule of the Constitution.
  • Paper II will be of 50 marks

Marking Scheme

  • Paper I consists of 100 questions; each question will carry 1 mark each.
  • Negative marking of 0.25 marks for each wrong answer.
  • Paper II is of qualifying nature and will only test candidates’ elementary skills. It will have a maximum mark of 50. Only those who qualify the paper I will be eligible to write Paper II.

Numerical Aptitude Syllabus Number Systems, Computation of Whole Numbers, Decimals and Fractions, Relationship between Numbers, Fundamental Arithmetical Operations, Percentages, Ratio and Proportion, Averages, Interest, Profit and Loss, Discount, Use Of Tables and Graphs, Mensuration, Time And Distance, Ratio and Time, Time and Work, etc.
General Awareness Questions will be set to test the ability of the candidate’s general awareness about the world around him and of the political environment of the country. The test will also include questions on current events and India’s recent economic and social policies. Candidates should also keep themselves updated on India’s relations/agreements with the neighbouring countries. Apart from that, candidates should cover the following topics:
Indian Constitution, Booker and Nationa, Award-Winning Books, History, Culture, Awards and Honors, Current Affairs, Science – Inventions & Discoveries. Important Financial & Economic News
English Language Candidates will be tested on their understanding of the Basics of English Language, Vocabulary, Grammar, Sentence structure, Synonyms, Antonyms and its correct usage etc. Along with that, candidates will be tested on his/her writing ability.

SSC MTS Exam Day Instructions

Carry a printed copy of your SSC MTS Admit Card, two passport-sized recent colour photographs and a valid ID proof to SSC MTS 2020 exam centre.

  • The ID proofs which are approved by the conducting authority are Aadhar, driving license, university or college ID card, voter ID card or Pan card.
  • Candidates must remember that they are not allowed to carry the following items in the exam centre: Watches (timers, wristwatch, etc.), books, pens, paper chits, magazines, electronic items (such as mobile phones, Bluetooth devices, pen camera or buttonhole camera, scanner, calculator, pen drives, hard drives, CDs or other storage devices).
  • Pens, pencils and papers required for rough work would be provided by the centre in the exam hall.
  • A wall clock will be made available in the classroom so candidates need not worry about managing time.
  • Please note that if any candidate is found carrying any of these prohibited items inside the examination hall, the candidate will be barred from the SSC MTS examination for three years.
  • No family members, friends, guardians or associates will be allowed with candidate inside the examination centre.
  • Candidates will be frisked before they enter the classroom where the exam is scheduled. After they enter clear the security check to make sure they are not carrying any of the prohibited items, they will be asked to lead to their classrooms.
  • A separate frisking area will be arranged for female candidates. All candidates will be frisked by female personnel only. The process is compulsory for all candidates.
  • No candidate is allowed to leave the examination room before the completion of the exam.
  • If a candidate leaves the examination room without the permission of exam invigilator, he/she will not be allowed to enter the examination hall and will be debarred from this exam.
  • Please make sure that you sign the Attendance sheet when it is circulated in the examination hall.

NOTE: Candidates must note that they are to avoid talking to each other or indulging in any unfair means as it would lead to direct cancellation of your candidature and debarment from future SSC Exams.

Hi Avinash, yes, cut off marks are decided by the SSC to be eligible for the job. Yes, there are equal chances of failing in paper 2.

Hi Rupali, paper-2 consists of one question on short essay writing/letter writing in English or any language included in the 8th Schedule of the Constitution. Thus, can attempt that question in Hindi too.

Iam the first attempt for these type of govt. exams.so i have no idea when i will start to study,which are the best book for crack the exams,limitted no of days are only available so what are the main things for crack the exams.

Hi Brinto, candidates need to attempt 100 questions in 90 minutes. 25 questions each from English, Mathematics, Reasoning and General Awareness. Standard of the questions asked would be of matriculation level. Things you need to keep in mind while attempting the exam are:

  • Manage your time. Do not waste much time on one question.
  • Try to practise quantitative aptitude as much as you can from RS Aggarwal.
  • Do not refer more than two books at a time.
  • You may refer Lucent's GK book to prepare General Awareness section.

Hi Anuradha, the exam is divided into two parts, 1 and 2, out of which paper 1 is MCQ based and will be conducted online while Paper 2 will be descriptive test and will be conducted in pen and paper mode compulsorily.
