SBI PO Prelims and Mains Exam Pattern 2026
SBI PO 2026 selection includes separate Preliminary and Main examinations. The Prelims exam consists of 100 objective-type questions for 100 marks and is conducted for 60 minutes. Candidates who qualify Prelims are eligible to appear for Mains. SBI PO Mains consists of a 200-mark Objective Test followed by a 30-mark Descriptive Communication Skills Test. The Objective Test contains 170 questions and is conducted for 3 hours, while the Descriptive Test is conducted for 30 minutes. Therefore, SBI PO Mains carries a total of 230 marks with a combined duration of 3 hours 30 minutes.

SBI PO Prelims and Mains 2026 Marking Scheme
SBI PO Prelims carries 100 marks, while SBI PO Mains carries 230 marks, including 200 marks for the Objective Test and 30 marks for the Descriptive Test.
For every incorrect answer in the objective tests of both Prelims and Mains, one-fourth of the marks assigned to that question is deducted as a penalty.
There is no negative marking for questions left unanswered in either the Preliminary or Main Objective Examination.
SBI PO Prelims does not have a sectional cut-off. Candidates are shortlisted for Mains based on their aggregate Prelims score and category-wise merit.
In SBI PO Mains, candidates are required to secure the minimum qualifying marks prescribed by SBI in each section of the Objective Test and in the Descriptive Test separately, along with the required aggregate qualifying marks.
Marks obtained in SBI PO Prelims are not considered for preparation of the final merit list. The Preliminary Examination is used only for shortlisting candidates for Mains. Marks obtained in the Main Examination and Phase III are considered for final selection.
