RRB NTPC Exam will be conducted by the railways for the posts of Non-Technical Popular Categories (NTPC), i.e., Junior Clerk cum Typist, Accounts Clerk cum Typist, Junior Time Keeper, Trains Clerk, Commercial cum Ticket Clerk, Traffic Assistant, Goods Guard, Senior Commercial cum Ticket Clerk, Senior Clerk cum Typist, Junior Account Assistant cum Typist, Senior Time Keeper, Commercial Apprentice and Station Master in various Zonal Railways and Production Units of Indian Railways.

The candidates will go through different stages of the selection process as per their choice of the post in the application form. The recruitment process will involve five stages. The stages are:

  1. Stage-I CBT
  2. Stage-II CBT
  3. Skill Test
  4. Document Verification
  5. Medical examination
RRB NTPC CBT 1

RRB NTPC Selection Process Stage-I: CBT 1

  • The Stage-I CBT contains 100 marks making a total of 100 marks.
  • The duration of the test is 90 minutes.
  • The exam duration for PWD candidates is 120 Minutes.
  • Stage-I is of a screening nature.
  • The marking scheme is 1 mark for each question.
  • A negative marking of 1/3 is there.
  • Normalization of marks will be done.
  • This test will be common for all candidates regardless of their choice of posts.

RRB NTPC Selection Process Stage-II: CBT 2

  • Separate Stage-II CBT will be taken for each of the 7th CPC Level i.e. Level 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 with the graded difficulty level.
  • The Stage-II CBT contains 120 marks making a total of 120 marks.
  • The duration of the test is 90 minutes.
  • CBT-II comprises three sections: General Questions Awareness, Mathematics and General Intelligence and Reasoning.
  • The exam duration for PWD candidates is 120 Minutes.
  • A negative marking of 1/3 is there.
  • The level of questions will be different for different levels of posts.
  • The candidates selected for stage 2 will be 20 times the number of vacancies for each post.
RRB NTPC Skill Test

RRB NTPC Selection Process: Skill Test

  • The skill test is different for every post.
  • There are 2 types of skill tests - Computer Based Aptitude Test & Typing Skill Test.

RRB NTPC Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT)

  • Computer-Based Aptitude Test is conducted for Station Master and Traffic Assistant while Typing Skill Test is held for Junior Clerk cum Typist, Junior Time Keeper, Accounts Clerk cum Typist, Senior Clerk cum Typist, Junior Account Assistant cum Typist and Senior Time Keeper
  • The shortlisting for Skill Tests such as the Computer-based Aptitude Test and Typing Skill Test is done 8 times the number of vacancies based on the merit of second stage CBT.
  • The candidates need to secure a minimum T-Score of 42 marks in each of the test batteries to qualify.
  • This applies to all candidates irrespective of community or category and no relaxation in the minimum T- Score is permissible.
  • The CBAT will have questions and answer options only in English and Hindi
  • There will be no negative marking in CBAT.
  • Merit list will be drawn only from amongst the candidates qualifying in the CBAT, with 70% weightage for the marks obtained in the 2nd Stage CBT and 30% weightage for the marks obtained in CBAT.

RRB NTPC Typing Skill Test (TST)

  • Qualifying in nature
  • Eight times the number of vacancies will be called for the typing test.
  • The candidates should be able to type 30 words per minute (WPM) in English or 25 WPM in Hindi on Personal Computer only without editing tools and spell check facility.

RRB NTPC Selection Process: Document Verification

After qualifying the second stage CBT and based on the performance in Computer Based Aptitude Test and Typing Skill Test (as applicable) candidates equal to the number of vacancies are called for Document Verification as per their merit. Appointment of selected candidates is subjected to their passing requisite Medical Fitness Test.

The appointment of selected candidates is subject to their passing the requisite medical examination. Candidates will be tested based on their physical fitness required for the post. Candidates should note that RRBs only recommend the names of impaneled candidates and appointment is offered by the respective RRB.

Ques. What are the resolutions for tie-breaking in RRB NTP?

Ans. In the case of ties, there are multiple levels. In the case of two or more candidates securing the same marks, a merit position is determined by age criteria. This means, the older person will be placed at higher merit, and in case of age is the same, then alphabetical order (A to Z) of the name will be taken into account to break the tie.

Ques. Will every applied candidate receive the admit card of RRB NTPC Stage-I?

Ans. Yes, all the eligible candidates who have completed the application process, will be able to download the admit card once it is released on the official website of the RRB.

Ques. What will be the medium of the RRB NTPC exam?

Ans. English is the default language. In case the candidate wishes to choose any other language, then the same can be selected from the drop-down list of languages. The languages listed are Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Konkani, Malayalam, Manipuri, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu.

In case of any difference/ discrepancy/dispute in the Questions between English and the opted language, the content of the English version will prevail.

Ans The RRB NTPC Selection Procedure will be based on 4 stages. The first phase of selection is CBT 1 then its CBT followed by Typing Skill Test and the last phase is Document Verification.

Ques. Is there any negative marking in the skill tests of RRB NTPC?

Ans. No, there is no negative marking in Computer-Based Aptitude Test and Typing Skill tests.

Hi Neha. Candidates appearing for this post have to qualify three stages including First Satge CBT – Prelims, Second Stage CBT – Mains, Typing Test (skill test). After that Document Verification and Medical examination will be conducted for the shortlisted candidates. Further details are mentioned here.

Will there be normalization of marks?

Hi Riyaz. RRB had released the normalisation formula for NTPC exam on December 16. The formula has been modified now. The normalisation formula is needed in the exams that are taken on different days in various shifts.

Hi Sameer. Yes, the selected candidates called for the Aptitude Test of ASM and Traffic Assistant posts, are supposed to bring their Vision Certificate from an Eye Specialist on prescribed proforma as per Annexure-10.

There distance Vision must be 6/9, 6/9 with or without glasses ((No fogging test), Near Vision must be 0.6, 0.6 with or without glasses and Must pass test for Colour Vision, Binocular Vision, Night Vision and Myopic vision.
